Hello,

Following on from my wheel related thread I've gone and bought four used 235x85xr16 Tyres for my 90. Local stealer (not landy garage) has asked for £45 to fit and balance them, which I'm refusing to pay for 15 minutes work done by a machine. How do I change the tyres myself?

1) Totally deflate the tyre
2) Break the bead with a crowbar
3) Prise the tyre off the rim with a crow bar

That's all there is too it right? Then to refit, it will just need a really good push?

Cheers

you won't break the bead seal with crowbar, best to have a long and wide stout piece of wood, place this on the sidewall of the tyre at 90degrees to the centre and then drive your landy up the wood (or jack the landy up and then drop down onto the wood) repeat for both sides. you will need a good tyre inflator to reseal the tyres back on the rims as they normaly need over 70psi to get then to seal

lol...It cost me £50 and that ain't bad as it took the guys at ATS nearly 2 hours to fit and balance them properly... seems my bargain e-bay Disco steelies weren't as 'straight' as they could have been ;)

Pay 'em pos... how're you going to balance them up?

try to find a small garidge wiv a tyre machine.
my son's garidge fits and balances fer a fiver a wheel, so long as you leave them there so that they can do it as-and-when.

There you go then pos... all yer need to do is drive ter Cornwall and drop yer wheels off at Trewey's son's garridge book into a B&B for an unspecified length of stay and then drive home again a further £20 lighter.

How much is the diseasal price near you at the mo?

Lol, diesel is between 120.9 (morrisons) and 122.9 at shell and esso. I take it that you're not about?

Yep pay the money pos, shud get them done for 10 quid a wheel, it's a coont to get em orf without proper tyre levers, and knowing what you are doing.

That old engine still running:p

I'm going to pay to get them swapped tomorrow all being well. Yep, still running strong! Took it to guernsey and back two weeks ago, good run, no problems =)

The garage my local landy place uses to do MOT's are going to swap them for £30 this afternoon, providing that I take my old tyres away (which I want to keep anyway). I'll put pictures up when they're on and I'm home.
