Fitting the Spare on the inside of the back door

Ok i haven't looked if it just thought about it now but if i strengthened the frame of a new back door ( mines bent at the bottom after son went off roading and caught the spare wheel going down a steep slope ) and the bottom of the frame is rotten aswell and use the whole frame of the door will it be ok, i know the spare will sit higher fitted on the inside of the door and will reduce the room in the back a bit but not too bothered about that.

What do you think

just take it off and put inside when off roading

They used to bolt them to rear of seat bulkhead !

Most places want them fastern down plus plan to fit forward facing rear seats

Nar don't fancy it on the bonnet but had a quick look yesterday and think it will just go but i will remove the spare and have a look with the spare in the back against the back door when its closed, the only thing i can see atm is the spare on the outside of the door is off set to keep it away from the door handle and it sits slightly lower on the outside to so i will take that into consideration when seeing if it will go

You may also find that as it will stick out a bit into the rear, it will probably catch or even get in the way of opening or shutting the door!

Just fit a carrier to the back mate take all the weight off the back door.

There are carriers to fit inside the back. They fit where the seats go in a s/w and the top bolts to the roof mountings. Looks really neat

Do you have a link for the folks that supply these... I remember seeing a picture, but cannot find one?

Raptor4x4 just googled internal wheel carrier and it was the first pic

I know its difficult at your age but try googling (defender internal wheel carrier image)

£200 for the raptor4x4, if you have a welder and some angle jobs a good'un

A can of tyre weld will take up less space

The spare will still get caught though as from my original post, normally going down a steep slope ( off road ) the landy would either get caught on the fixed tow bar or the tow bar would dig the slope away which would help the spare not to get caught on the slope but when we replaced the chassis we fitted a removable tow bar type bracket so now the spare has no protection when going down slopes when off roading so fitting the spare on the inside of the door would be ideal if it could be done

I can see it being a pain in rear being on the inside of the door personally I think better off mounting it against the back bulkhead like they do on truck cabs.
ive had mine on some fair slopes and not had any issues, if it does touch then it won't be damaging the back door as all the weight is taken by the chassis so will just be the rubber ploughing! I havnt got anywhere inside to store a 37" and be able to lift it in & out easily!

And it does go down some steep drops with no issues!

Well that puts some weight over the back axle.
