First hand battery recommendation? What do you use?

Aren't you talking about a different battery? You said you had a Numax XV24, they are talking about the CXV-X (which is the one that's recommended iirc).

You buy the wrong battery? :)

or i might have misread what you said ;)

This is mine.....

Numax CXV24MF Sealed Leisure Battery 12V 86Ah 1000MCA 500 Cycles XV24MF - Leisure Batteries - Numax Leisure Batteries

and this is the recommendation.....

Numax CXV-X 1000 Amp - Leisure Batteries - Numax Leisure Batteries

Still a bit reluctant to buy another Numax.
 
I've got a 640 tractor battery, GS Hercules I think it's called. It replaced a 644 varta that was a complete let down, if you didn't time the glow plugs just right or forgot n flicked the key you had no hope, had to get a jump. Got the 640 about 6 months ago and am extremely impressed with it. Runs a winch no problem and always spins over engine very quickly. Reasonably priced too compared to varta.

I know you said you checked, but that's not good. Batteries or something else is wonky.

I'd be tempted to take one out, fully charge it and see what happens to its charge when disconnected for a few days.

Fully charged on the car for 24 hours - 11.5 volts. :eek:

Neither battery will register full charge (been like that for a year or so) even if they were on charge for several days.

Off the car, the voltage of the worst is dropping as we speak. The other one ain't much better.

Really confused now!!! Have a look at the Numax CXV-X 1000 Amp that everybody recommends and what does it say on the top, yes you've guessed it Numax XV 24MF!!

One is advertised as 1000cca and one at 900cca.

I need to phone them and find out what is going on.

To those of you with a CXV-X 1000 amp - what picture does it have on the side - a boat or a 4x4?

I had an old ****ter in my series that would die after a few attempts at turning over in cold weather.
Can't remember which model it was, but swapped for a Bosch with the most CCA I could get for about £200 and she fired up like there was no tomorrow. Wouldn't fit in the injun bay mind, this was huge.
Pretty sure CCA was along the lines of 1500.
 
Well, there's two different types of battery.

There's the Odyssey/Optima/Varley types which are gel fill, spiral wound etc etc, basically they are shock resistant and you can mount them upside down, or there are regular batteries.

I have had normal batteries for a while and they have been superb, pair of halfords units at 510cca and about 70ah iirc.

Did some rock crawling the other day and one battery got killed, instant shock failure.

I now run Optimas which I got for very nice price off Marc7 on here, the diamondest of geezers.

As you don't offroad Rob :( you probably don't need gel batteries, which cost more I guess.

I haven't really done any testing on my batteries yet but no complaints so far.

What I would say as my main advice is CHECK YOUR STARTER!

If you are having trouble starting, when there is clearly a decent amount of power available, make sure the starter is running at 100% efficiency!

I wouldn't be surprised to find out they are exactly the same, but with a different sticker. Btw, I'm pretty sure that's marine ca, in reality the battery is 720 CCA.

But one should have been fine, when new, to turn over your beasty. Tell us what they say when you ring numax/manbat

what difference does it make if it has a boat or 4x4 on the label?

Nothing apart from the CXV-X 1000amp (also labelled XV 24MF) is rated at 1000mca and 1000cca whilst the XV 24MF is rated at 900mca and 900cca.

I rang today and basically, the guy I spoke to doesn't know his arse from his elbow. He said the batteries are the same but could not explain why they were rated differently. He also seemed to think mca and cca were interchangeable.
