Hi all, just entered my first competition here in Spain. Just to set the scene....I arrived about 10.00 am along with about 60 other modded vehicles of which about 45 were well lifted Nissans. After the various drivers took a look around the course only 13 decided to sign up! I looked at my modded 200tdi Discovery with its AT BF's and looking everyone else running 'muds' I thought I would give it ago.

Although not a 'proper' club member of the club that organised the competition I knew the club president so regardles of my position on the track at the end I would not be allowed a trophy. I was however allowed to be included in 'non track' areas of the competition as the winner is decided by other drivers ect.

So after watching drivers in the Nissan group break lockers/front hubs ect and a Range Rover rip the teeth off his transfer box cogs I had ago...low and behold I came FIRST with only one foul on the entire course. This has proved that a fifteen year old Discovery with sensible mods can really cut it.

As my 'truck' is not as wild as the other entries you can gather it got a lot of interest, I took the award for best equipped vehicle.

This was held at the industrial estate in Lorca right next to the Land Rover dealers............no I'm afraid no one came over with a sponsorship deal, better luck next time.

Now to wash the car as I have 3 airport trips to do this week!

I have uploaded some photo's, I have been told a camera puts on about ten pounds.....I must have had five cameras on me at the time of this photo 8>)

so what "sensible" mods you made? Cant stand cosmetic mods.Well in mate!
[quote=mjltiggerawesome.. just goes to show how good discovery's are... would be cool to know about your base vehicle and mods though...unquote.

The mods are pretty straightforward, the usual 2" lift, 265/75/16 BFG all terrains (Muds would have been better) ARB lockers and the usual hardened stuff driveshafts ect.

HD bumpers and rock sliders add a bit of weight to the car but really help with damage limitation, no cosmetic changes as I am not interested in them, winch hidden behind bumper, number plate drops down to reveal cable and guide ect.

Proper 'chuffed' mate, my spanish is pretty poor but when the president of a club from a few kilometres down the road invited me to have a go at the course laid out by his club, along with sniping remarks about the apparent lack of organisation by 'my' club and how good my driving was (head getting bigger) it was obvious he wanted me to join his clan.

I had to decline his 'meet' the following week as I had a couple of airport runs to do for friends and it would have been a tad iresponsible to risk breaking the car beforehand.

Anyway, good alround stuff and thanks for 'pat on the back',

regards

Dave
