Hello,

I have a 1995 300 tdi auto. I have spent the best part of an entire day dearching the internet for a wiring diagram at no charge.

In particular I am looking for the circuit for the twin engine cooling fans. I want to have then run when my controller detects that the exhaust gas temperature exceeds my alarm set point.

Can anyone point me to where I can download these details please.

Sounds a one-off "exhaust gas temperature" so something not normally installed in standard production vehicles.

But then it's not difficult, a sensor to measure the tempreature connected into an ecu that switches on the fan/s via relay at your preset setting plus a 12v supply, just four items, so it's easy.

The standard wiring diagram for a Kenlow cooling fan comes to mind, if you still want a diagram :)

Are the twin fans standard fit?
Never had an auto but I thought that the 300 TDis had a viscous fan fitted.
Get a CD manual or a Haynes.

There's no point measuring Egt , and using fans !!! Fans are for the coolant in your radiator !!! Egt is adjusted by fuelling and boost pressure!!!! Cooling the air into and around the inter cooler may help a tiny bit but will not lower you're EGT temp!!!!!

Thanks kindly for your assistance guys.

I didnt explain myself well.

I am doing the fuel tweaks so as to up the HP. I have already carried out the tweaks on the fuel pump but only conservatively and it does improve the HP and drivability, much smoother. Just to ensure I am not pushing things too much, I am about to install an 'Auber Instruments' digital multi-function meter with K probe to monitor the EGT. It has adjustable set point with indicator and relay output.

I was planning to use the relay to turn on the electric fans when the EGT goes higher than the set point (if the fans are not already on). For this, I need the air cond wiring diagram.

I am thinking that operating the fans could only help the situation.

Thanks.

Wiring in the fans to an egt sensor won't help. The only thing you need to attach to it is your right foot.

Ok, I suppose you are right. The amount of heat soaking into the block and hence the water jacket as a result of being a lead foot is probably minimal.

Looks like I'll just add an over temp warning buzzer and be happy about it.
Maybe that way the buzzer will be so annoying, I'll have to back off if only to stop the buzzer.

Hi Jason, so if I understand you correctly you are wanting to use the EGT as a trigger to turn on electric fans and in doing so you would add extra engine cooling therefore protect the engine?

If that's the case, why don't you pick up some cooling fans from a scrapyard (any car will do) wire up a fused power supply and use your Auber instrument as the switch?

Not had aircon on a disco no.

But they dont really cool the engine.

You correct "they dont really cool the engine" but they cool the radiator and AC condenser and some air will pass through, that is why there is an additional temp sensor in the cooling system.

"The thermostatically controlled timer will continue to
operate the cooling fans after the air conditioning or
ignition is switched off. When the system temperature
is excessive, the fans will operate for 10 minutes to
reduce condenser and underbonnet temperature."

If you do find the wiring diagrams do post up though...

They're no in the RAVE CD as far as i can find, i don't think the detailled diagrams are in the Haynes either.

I really want the proper full wiring diagram for a Disco - it would really help with faulting, diagnosis and modifications!!!
