Hi all, I've removed the old side mounted seats from my 90 and now have about two dozen holes in the arches. I've bought a new rubber liner to tidy it up, but I want to fill the holes first.

I was considering rubber grommets but think they may be a little too tall and pop out with weight put on top of them, does anyone have a simple suggestion? Other thought was to cut some small aluminium coin size discs and stick them on using seam sealer or similar (from underneath), but this may look like a right bodge if uncovered!!

Any advice? Thanks

Grommets will do the job fine, make sure you get a low profile shape with a decent lip and they won’t pop out. This method also gives you the option of reverting back to seats if you ever needed to, or wanted to sell.

I riveted some 1mm alluminium sheet to mine on the underside of the wheel arches.and then applied some P38 to the holes above.
To ensure a good seal I sprayed some underseal on the sheet before riveting it together and then coated it again when i'd finished.

On a vehicle which is a collection of pop rivets held in suspension and separated by rust and corrosion, anything you do that has to be done is rarely a bodge. If you can't find nice grommets to add value to your 90, then cut some nice discs, paint them and stick them on with a polyurethane sealant/adhesive. Now, if you cut squares and stick them on with silicone, then that would be a bodge.

Nothing like a newbie getting stuck in with sarcasm.

Sarcasm??? I don't think so. And there's nothing like an old forum warrior waiting to pounce on a "newbie" to teach them a lesson. For information, I've been on this forum since 2006, under a different name/password which I lost a while ago on a dead pc and gave up trying to recover, so I've started afresh.

It would be quite feasible to aluminium solder to holes over, and the top surface sanded smooth.. it would be the most time consuming method but give the best finish..

Keep your knickers on. Forgot to put the smiley winky eye face on after the comment. Someone's in a touchy mood.
I also think round would look better than square ⬛.;):D.

I reckon the round patch idea is quite a good one and will look smart, and being round wont get caught on so easily.

You can get round blanks off ebay etc
