Good reminder of how tough they can be! The OCD car cleaner part of me is horrified but the explorer part of me wants to get a set of chunky tyres and go find some mud :)

Before any points their P38 towards so rough stuff and rocks....

Do remember the Americans have heavily modded their P38's and probably the most uselful mod they have done is added Air Lockers to the diffs

But yes the P38 is more capable than others think!

In those conditions air bags would be punctured for sure. Coils are essential for such extreme stuff, wouldn't want to drive it on the road very far though.:eek::eek:

Yes the OCD clean Rangie owner in my is horrified.
I didn't think there would be any air suspension cars in that video.
But Amazingly the white Rock crawler one "JCs Rover" towards the end is on air bags.
Just love the crackle of those V8s.

So the kind of axle articulation in some of those scenes is only possible with coils?

Axle articulation depends on the length of the shocks. To get extreme articulation on the front you would have to remove the anti roll bar and fit modified radius arms to correct the steering geometry that a large lift would cause go out the window. So yes special coils will give more articulation than even gen IIIs that would need serious mounting and sensor arm mods to match the coil articulation i would think. I would not like to drive one on the motorway at 70 MPH and have to swerve to avoid a situation though.

I have a stock 2000 P38, and have been to wales three years running with friends with tricked up Landrovers, never had a problem even in very heavy conditions, the only small thing that can make you think is the width of them, landrovers and disco's canfit into smaller gaps!
