Drivers window decided to stop working while driving 110km/h and stay wide open. Had to do some bushcraft soldering to open the window switch pack. There's nothing but forest around, not the most convenient place to have electrical problems! And this after we finally fixed the rear window not working yesterday.
Tried to scratch the connections but the window doesn't roll up. It's all the way down and makes a noise in the door when you press the "down" button and says "window not set". Upon trying to press it "up" there is no noise in the door, but the dash does repeatedly beep and say "window not set". Is the next step taking off the door panel?

It's my first time owning a P38 so I didn't know you're supposed to haul your entire goddamn workshop in the car with you when it randomly decides to have breakdowns on a roadtrip.

Window not set just means the battery has been disconnected, the window needs a down then up cycle to clear the message.
If the window not goin up is not the switch, then it may well be the regulator, the rivets holding it in place have been known to fail and jam the mechanism, so it's door card off.

So we took the door card off and discovered there is a broken relay on the motherboard, for the button that is supposed to make the window go up. After squishing it we managed to close the window for the night and tomorrow will replace the motherboard and hopefully solve the problem!

Nanocom would have helped. In the BECM menus, it will show if the switch pack is working correctly by reading each switch action. There's also options to open & close each window by sending the required commands to the BECM.

In your case it would have not put the window up due to the broken relay, but you could have used the other door out-station to enable you to close the window as both fronts are interchangeable.
