Recently bought my first P38, 1999 2.5 diesel with 155k miles. I don't have very much mechanical knowledge but I noticed the EAS system works half of the time, the other half it beeps during startup with EAS warning and all four lights light up. Sometimes they are lit for 30min until the EAS decides what it wants to do, then it chooses a setting. Sometimes I want to lift it high, or low, but it doesn't allow me to. Is this normal? Sometimes when I turn it off and get out of the car, the car "adjusts" itself by lowering down one wheel at a time. Not falling as if the airbags failed, but gently lowering itself... I heard that P38s are constantly trying to gain control of their owner with all their electrics, is the car really supposed to do what it wants or is there a fault somewhere?
Thanks for your patient responses :)

The left footwell connector can prevent the up-down switch wires from working, BUT if all four lights are flashing then up-down is ignored by the EAS ECU !!

Random behaviour is more likely the connector under the valve block, that connects between driver pack & solenoids. Also any height sensor out of range will cause strange stuff.

Check the air springs for leaks and check the compressor is making enough pressure. Leaks or a duff compressor will stop it rising or make it slow to rise, leaks will cause it to self level down.
