Yep, there's a hole beneath the silver duct tape. I found the hole not long after I'd bought the Disco, as in I managed to poke it through whilst picking at some rusty paint! Anyway wire brushed it and Hammerited the edges, then duct taped over it to cut down any water ingress.

Trouble is, the hole is within 30 cm of the brake master cylinder & servo - they're important bits, don't you know!?

Hopefully get it welded up this week and then back for a (very!) short retest!

Only advisories were rear pads wearing unevenly, O/S front shock bottom bush worn (I do have another!), front exhaust has minor leak (the steel mesh is showing black soot) and slight cut on O/S/R tyre.

Emissions were 0.63 out of the permissible 3 so happy days (and she sounded great whilst being revved!) :D

Aye! Excessive corrosion AKA a hole, within the prescribed area.. No wonder we don't see too many proper Minis on the road...everything is within 30cm of everything else.!

Maybe he was jealous of the top welding job on the N/S chassis rail :D

a couple of years back the mot tester was going to fail my disco for a hole in inner wing, said it was too close to the suspension

On the bright side, at least he's thorough. Anal, but thorough :D

Naty - no he's just thorough I guess. Mind you - it'd be interesting to find out just how much metal you could cut away from that area before it affected the structural integrity of the brake servo mount. Wouldn't there be some kind of strengthening webs on the other side of the bulkhead where the pedal bracketry bolts to? I reckon the bonnet hinge would fall off first!

Technically he cant fail you for that as he cant see the actual rust, and testers arnt allowed to remove anything durung a test (apart from lifting bonnet etc) so how would he know what was behind the tape.

He can tap it with the inspection tool and if it goes through he can fail and fail as a inadequate repair. Just being tough

It is a fail though if visable. But you cant complain about testers being thorough. It could sace your life one day

No argument there, especially if it's a common sense fail & not "you can't have orange sidelights" fail (long story, American car ;) )

I didn't actually see what he did - I've been told about the "not being allowed to remove stuff" aspect. I suspect he tapped it with the toffee hammer - a dead giveaway on duct tape with a hole behind it!

I may be wrong about the inadequate repair bit, he may be able to fail for it being made if duct tape alone without being able to make a hole in it, but for say rust the "tiffie hammer" has to go through.

Ill do my testers course soon and let you know ;)

SWEET! Cheap, sensible MOT tests..... in Australia. Hang on while I arrange a friendly Antonov transport jet to get me and the Disco over to Oz :D

Good luck on the course!

Dont worry ive got a airstrip on farm. I can unload from the antanov straight into the shed and should be back to you in 5-7 working days !!
