Depending on where the work takes me, it's possible I may be emigrating to Germany in the next year or so. Obviously, having invested a lot of time and effort in my old 90, I'd like to take it with me.

As far as 'Germanising' my Landy goes, it seems relatively simple regarding the actual work to do. Swap the headlights for LHD-spec, interchange the fog/reverse lights, maybe think about a km/h speedo (though the original should suffice.) But there's the legal minefield to negotiate. There's the notoriously tough TUV test to get through, which I reckon a fair proportion of cars in the UK would fail. Since the 90 was sold in Germany, I believe it's possible to get a certificate of conformity which negates the need for the inspection, though I'm not sure if 1988 is too early for this to apply, or if there are other exemptions for old vehicles. My 90 is basically in standard unmodified condition which will presumably help.

With whatever relevant paperwork in hand, after that it should be a case of exchanging the UK v5 for a German one and swapping number plates over.

Anyone successfully brought their Landy across the border?

Check( Emission stickers) In case you don't know, you will have to have one of these to drive in most towns and cities in Germany. Your car may be too old to conform. I had to send my car detail, log book to Germany. they check the emissions Details and if all is in order you can apply for the euro sticker. My car at the time was a D2 it came back as euro 4. ( You may already know about this)
