HI all just thought i would say hi and introduce myself i have never been off road always stuck to cars and bikes but i feel a mid life coming on and need to scratch it so would like to get involved with 4x4ing and green laneing so please dont bash the noob as i have no idea or experiance about off roading but would be up for any help or advice

Hi Guys anyone out this weekend ?

Most of us are going to the Suffolk Land Rover Club driving day. Its this Sunday.
You need to be a member first (includes one free driving day, £10 per day thereafter).

If not keep an eye. there's normally an evening every few weeks. In fact we must be due one soon.
 
I meant you need to be a member to drive the course, not to visit (at least i think??).
I am not an active member, only been twice this year.
If you wanted to take a look on the day then i would suggest joining their forum (via the previous link i posted) and then introduce yourself there, explain you are thinking about buying a Landy and ask if its ok to visit on the day. I cannot see why it would be an issue, but I don't know about insurance etc????

Good luck with your Landy search and read lots before parting with your hard earned cash.

Welcome to the busiest part of the forum. :)

Please be sure to keep checking back here regularly.

If you want to jump in my disco next time we go out your more than welcome, and can see what a standard disco can do.

A lot of people will insist that lift kits and huge tyres are the only way to tackle the lanes, and it's true that sometimes they are usefull, but not always nessersary.

If you want help and advice on what landy to get then ask away. Often if you find one you would consider, you may well find a very helpful member who would know what to look out for and go with you to view.

What are you considering and what's your budget?

I'd also be quick as prices rise in the winter months.

SLROC driving days are only open to landys, anyone can come and have a look, bit do ask a marshal frist,and yes you have to be a member before you drive on the course, and the landy has to be upto a standard before you can drive the cousre, but its things like fecovert points,battery clamped in, all the info is on th slroc website in the memership page
 
Good to see you've upgraded your recovery straps from the tesco tow rope on your last one. You going to newbourne sunday

Hahaha that tow rope saved Brian a few times! (when we had to pull him out of that small puddle, and we joined them all together lol)

Sunday I've got a Christening I have to go too -sorry! so won't be there :(

"battery clamped in" mmmm! That might be an issue for me! Cos mine is rattling around under bonnet! (any ideas how to clamp mine down when there's no clamp points)

I was a newbie when I first went out with these guys! (it was me that got us all together - (my claim to fame) and I didn't even know what a recovery point was! And when I got stuck we all laughed when I got my tesco value tow rope out if the boot)

threaded bar from any motor spares ,drill through, large washer and nut under panel another,washer and nut to keep it in place . one of those either side of battery,flat piece of bar with two holes drilled in across battery. two nuts and washers to hold it all down. make sure flat bar is not near any terminals.

Guy most motor factors will do a battery clamp kit consisting of the clamp to go across battery, two threaded bars and wing nuts for easy removal all in at most a tenner:)
 
I got myself a pair of long travel rear spring relocators TF520 . Given that my shocks are 2" longer than standard and I'm not convinced my springs really are +2"

Just fitted one of my rear dislocation cones. Taken me nearly 2 hours to remove spring, fit the cone and then refit the spring.
I read somewhere that the spring should be installed with the coils closer together at the bottom (I had done mine the other way).
Yes Matt your right. I should have removed the shock. I will when I do the offside.

So the nearside is now done :D but the offside will have to wait. I'll bring my crowbar tomorrow as I bet the offside dislocates :confused:
Unless I use 100 cable ties :rolleyes:

What were you removing it with? Your teeth??

Your springs are known as "progressive springs". The tight windings need to be at the bottom. They are defiantly not the springs you should have got! Was speaking with a guy in Devon yesterday about them.

thanks for the support looking foward to getting the landdy
budget would be up to 1500hundred i quess or there or there about as want some left over for any bits i will need as the landdy wont be my mine car it will just be a toy but will have to be road legal.
Brian if your seriouse about jumping in next time out that would be great would love to as it would give me a great in site into green laneing and i be happy to pay ur fuel bill for the day
 
No problem. Keep an on this thread and when we are out next we will sort something out.

They are usually evening trips on a week night if that suits you. This is due to some of our work commitments.

Fan tastic, cheers mate! I need to get a bigger battery first! (the one I've got is out of a fiat 127 I reckon!

I worry if I have to flash my lights incase it drains it! Not to good if winching out of somewhere!

Am gonna look at getting 2 batteries and a split charge system.
