Engine Probs

when I went to collect my 3rd N/A, which was complete and had oil in it, 4 of us, none of us particularly small, struggled to lift it 2 inches off the floor by means of a long pole threaded through a strap round the engine.


Although, with an engine crane changing them is really easy, took us 4 hours to do the entire job, helped by the fact that everything was free and easy to move 'cos i had done it all a week previously.
 
yu will need an engine hoist and at least 3 peeps - its VERY heavy :eek:.

If its a long arm engine crane 3 peeps or an engine hoist.
I'm not sure I'd want to put one in a Discovery though. Even if it has been cleaned and drained, there will still be a considerable amount of oil and water if it tips over, and they are difficult to keep upright.

ooohh tah mhm, wheres them from? got loads of pdf's of workshop manuals and i have RAVE but not looked in yet

and yeh, think it'd have to go in a braked trailer if i got one. hoping i dont need one tho
 
i've transfered a few injuns using trailer and engine hoist and chain block, wouldnt want to put an engine in the back of a series even!! i found strapping them to the front uprights of me trailer worked best, wasnt the best weight distribution but stopped the things falling over (dropped me 2 1/4 petrol on its side the first time) but i'd highly recommend some sort of lifting gear, its alot of metal to drop on yer squishy bits :eek:

worst one i shifted was me second perkins, me and the old boy i got it from had to lift it on the hoist and then push it up a hill over a channel drain from his shed to the trailer which was parked only a ba hair from the main fooking road wi cars whizzin past at 70 odd....... highly dungarees as the old boy put it...... :rolleyes:
 
I used to carry them about in an Astra van, I knew how to wedge them in the corner.
The most I managed was 3, roped together for mutal support, right at the back to aid loading & unloading.
The streering was a bit light!

Cheers for all the help by the way.

It ended up being a stuck valve, the very back one. When it got finally released it sprung back like a coil spring under compression releasing! It's running great now. Re-set all the rest of them too.

BUT as is usual i have another problem, now with the transfer box that has appeared today. I'll post it up

It ended up being a stuck valve, the very back one. When it got finally released it sprung back like a coil spring under compression releasing! It's running great now. Re-set all the rest of them too.

Yer valve might be bent toots, and once it gets back to the bit where it was stuck before it might stick again. In a worst case scenario the head breaks off cos it's damaged, but rare. If it does stick again and you take it of, remember to check the valve guide, cos it could have an orrible crack in it or sumut worse.
