Hi all right I've just changed the belt on my disco TD5 as it sounded like it was slipping. Now I've got the new one fitted it still sounds like its slipping but I don't think it is as the old belt looked fine. I think it's coming from the exhaust manifold side of the engine and abounds just like a belt slipping/whistle.

Any one shead any light on this??

i think ....and please correct me if im wrong the inner edge of ya new belt will wear thin or be wearing thin ....my one did this after a new belt was fitted the original was fine i belive its the tenstioner wich has moved possition when you removed the tenstion ... my mate run one for years with a sqweel and the inner edge of the belt broken off .....i think its a new tenstioner job to fix fully ......

try a length of hose pipe, about a metre long, to use as a listening pipe,
place one end to your ear, with the other, move over the area where you think the noise comes from,
be suprised how good you can get in locating "noises"

as its near christmas, and beer flows, dont leave the hose connected to a tap!..:5bbeatdeadhorse5:

merry christmas!

Ok then before i try and sort this manifold problems is there anything i need to no? ive heard that the studs are very prone to shearing off? also could i get away with tightening the manifold a bit to see if i can stop the noise or will i need a new gasket and fire putty.
is it as east as take it off change the gaskets over, fire putty on and re tighten ??

I don't think there is a broken stud it's just the gasket thats fooked. I'm just scared that somthing as easy as changing a gasket is going to get bigger than Ben hur! With studs braking etc

Same problem on mine. Described as sounding a bit like a dentists drill. Found it by spraying wd40 around the gasket and you can see it blowing bubbles. It had one broken stud and I broke one other getting it out so I would expect to have to deal with broken studs whether you've got them or not.
