is there a web site you can go on to determine what your engine is from the no on the block

Usually looking at it will give you a decent idea. There's only 4 possibilities unless someone has got very creative.

Putting a picture up on here will give you the answer but basically if its a 4 cyl petrol its the Rover K Series, 6 cyl petrol its the Rover KV6, a diesel from 2000 onwards with 'TD4' written on the car its the BMW M47 or if its a diesel up to 2000 its the Rover L Series.

Or you can put your VIN number in here and it will probably say...
