the missus' l-series diesel has started running like a bag of spanners, and the engine management light is coming on, this started shortly after i changed the glowplugs! any ideas guys!

Had exactly the same symptoms last week with my 2.0L, management light coming on, revving randomely - check the vacuum hose running into the MAP (manifold absolute pressure) sensor which is located on the passenger side of the bulkhead. Mine was drawing in air where the hose is joined to the sensor via a short length of fuel hose, but check the whole line for any damage/wear etc. Or it might have been knocked or pulled out when you were changing the plugs? New piece of hose and 2 zip ties sorted mine.

Cheers
Ed

mine is more power loss/misfiring, than revving randomly though, BUT i'll check that out when i get home at dinner! cheers!

well, got home took the cover off, couldnt seee anthing ammiss, so soaked everything in wd40, took her for a spin, and everything "seems" fine! ?????????????

well, its still apears to be doing it, on constant throttle for ~10seconds, the light comes on, then goes off when you let the throttle off, had it on diagnostics, and it comes up with fault 144 (injection start control) but cant find it in the reference books! does anybody havce any ideas? thanks

I know two things about Freelanders

Nuthin n Buggerall :D

But as this only seems to have started after you changed yer glowplugs. Could you not have dislodged something i.e. electrical connector?
You don't say why you changed the glow plugs either? ;)

i changed plugs because of cold start probs, which it did resolve!i have checked and double checked connections! im sure it is a connection somewhere, but have no idea where!

if itson the passenger bulk head how would you knock it or pull it off if you was changing the plugs

It could be the glow plug relay sticking cos it aint used to actually supplying that much power. Only a guess though.

try seeing if the relay is still open once the engine has started.

sorry disregard this. I thought it was the glow plug light staying on.

It sounds like an EGR fault. check the small vacuum pipes to make sure you haven't dislodged or holed one.

I was gonna say that if you guys were anywhere near me I woulda plugged your vehicles into my diagnostic and run a scan for you.
