Not everytime, and only when the engine is warmed up fully; when the ignition is turned off and the key is removed, the engine continues to run!!

Sometimes only for a second or two, but i have had to stall it before as it was running for over a minute.

Guy I got the disco from said he had tried to resolve it by changing the stop/start solenoid, but it hasn't fixed it as I still have the problem!

It has been suggested that it could be due to a worn seal/ring somewhere, pulling oil thru and running on that.....

Any ideas/info/advice???

Thanks

I think it's the solenoid yet again.

Take it out, examine the wee washer on the inside end of it. It needs to be perfect if it to stop the engine, and the plunger MUST pull IN smartly when you put 12 volts on it, and FLY OUT smartly when the power is off..

You should be able to take the plunger out and ensure it is clean and free.

Easy job so do it FIRST.

fuel pump is on its way out , it is breaking up in the inside and small bits get stuck
in the magnet and jams it open or shut. when you take the key out and it still runs give it a rev it will soon stop
then clean out the solinoid switch and the hole it screws into

I wouldn't rev a turbo engine when its about to turn off unless you want to destroy your turbo bearings.

My 200TDi Defender had a run on problem. Had to stall the engine to stop it and was a b!tch to start sometimes. Discovered a small brown/white wire with a tag on the end, and a corresponding empty spade under the solenoid. Was very loose fit so tweaked it with pliers and hey presto, runs like a dream.
