Engine codes

Got my log book back today and the engine code is the same as the book which I wasn't expecting, however the code is 12j which I think is the original engine however it's a 300tdi fitted! Is this something to worry about or not?

300tdi engine numbers began with 16L IIRC,a re you saying the engine number on the block begins 12J?

its usual to change number in log book to the new engine number,if 300 has 12j stamped on it, id wonder why ie nicked engine

Does it mean that if a 300TDi engine has 12J stamped on it , that some scroat has ground off the original number and restamped it with 12J? Or am I missing something here?

If that is the case , makes you wonder why someone would stamp a number on the block that could never appear on a 300Tdi. unless they just copied the original number from the logbook hoping that anyone else would not delve deeper.

Ye it has been changed to 12j which is the original number on the log book i was going to put the 300 numbers on the book till I realised it's already been changed but on the engine!
What would the best option be from here?
