OK, bit of an odd set up. 1994 110 Defender with 300tdi engine. Engine is a replacement for the original NA. Air filter cannister and intake is the one from the NA - sits on near side just behind the headlight.. Seems to work fine, engine runs a little rich I think.
Before I go blundering in - any tips on removing air pipes and top half of canister?

Best bet is a picture for people to see exact setup you have. If it is anything like the TD setup I have in mine the air pipe is held on with jubilee clips And the canister has little wire clipped at the bottom of it. But if you are asking it might be different as that is all very obvious and easy from a Quick Look.

Hi all, just to clarify - it's an ex-military defender so it had an NA engine during service - should have been clearer when I first posted - dooh!
Here are 2 shots of the filter canister. You can just see the nearside wing in pic1 with air pipe going to the near side wing intake position (Bottom RH corner of pic) and the radiator in pic 2.

Take off top pipe(undo jubilee clip)
Undo the latches on the top to base, filter housing will/should come apart
same setup as mine the above from hicap phill is correct, there should be three latches/clips around the canister. Only issue you may find as you have a different engine is the canister once disconnected needs a bit or rotation and a wiggle to fit between the top intercooler pipe and the wing to remove it.

Thanks for the replies guys, Job done. fell back on experiences working on classic minis. It's a bit tight in there in places.
