Hi All,

I'll firstly admit to not being a regular visitor because as of the past day I haven't really had any issues with my 2001 Discovery 2 Td5.

Last night in the middle of the night the alarm went off for no reason whatsoever. I silenced the alarm after checking for any signs of break in etc but all seemed in order.

I went to the truck this morning and could not open it with the fob. I had to use the key and could only open one door.

The indicators now dont work, neither do the 4 way hazard lights and rear window wiper/washer.

I went to check on the truck this afternoon while at work and all of the warning lights were illuminated on the dash even though it was locked. I retrieved the key and the truck started first time, no problem, however there was a B symbol with a line through it next to the odometer that kept flashing. Also when I tried to turn it off the engine kept running even with the key position to off and the key removed.

I finally managed to get the engine to stop but all the warning lights came on again.

Eventually after alot of stopping/starting the truck I was able to get the lights and engine to stop.

I've checked fuses and all appear in order.

Being relatively new to the make/model any help/advice would be appreciated.

I will continue to trawl through the forum posts in the hope that I come across something.

Thank you in advance.

Hi,
from my experience(with my car) that flashing cut B means a comunication issue between the BCU(body controll unit - behind the glovebox) and IDM(intelligent driver module - integral part of the passenger compartment fusebox) ... water ingress at any of these units is quite common due to leaking windscreen seals. First of all check theyrs plugs for corrosion... the alarm system and all the warning lights are managed by them, especially by the BCU. if no water ingress signs then it might be the BCU itself at fault... it doesnt store fault cosdes so a tester would only test the circuits eventually or change some settings... anyway it's a pig to diagnose, it needs a really knowleadgeable person who knows electronics and how these systems work.

when i had that flashing B i had all kind of alarm and warning light issues and after a long struggle i found a circuit board cracked within the BCU.

Thank you very much for the prompt reply.

I'm just off outside to have a look at the parts you mentioned.

I presume the alarm on the LAND ROVER is likely to keep going off intermittantly until the fault is found and recitified. Its now dark, my tools are locked in the back, can only open the drivers door.

Could have been worse. At least I didn't refer to it as a JEEP.

Problem solved and through it's MOT with the help a truck driver/mechanic at work, who incidently was more interested in the problem as opposed to whether it was called a jeep, truck or Land Rover.

Precisely what mine does. Especially when its been left a few days. Usually sorts itself out after a day or two but I've got a replacement BCU to get fitted sometime. One time it did it, the engine wouldn't stop, the electric windows wouldn't work and I couldn't unlock the doors. Was starting to wonder how I was going to get out of the thing.
What did your guy do to sort the problem?

guys I have the same problem, what did you do to resolve the problem

any help appreciated

Taza
