I own a 2002 1.8 freelander. It recently had a complete engine rebuild. Recently whilst driving it my abs and handbrake lights in my dashboard flash on, my stereo switches off and my speedo stops working. The first few times this happened I still had complete control of the car. Someone told me to push all my fuses in so I did. It hasn't helped it is still doing it on a daily basis. Today it has done a lot on my way home from a friends and this time my engine has stuttered sometimes when it does it. It only seems to happen when the car has been running for quite some time but this is the only pattern to it. Any ideas?

It's some kide of electrical connection problem, that manifests itself when warmed up. Unfortunately you're going to need to check every component and electrical connection for corrosion/bad connections. Also re-seat every fuse by pulling them out and re-fitting them.

Thank you for your replies it turns out a master cable that runs from the alternator had not been secured properly and has been getting churned up by the rotors on the timing belt and has shredded it and is causing it to short out. It completely cut my engine out on the way to work today. Does anyone know if this is a big job?

Not really. Anyone competent with electric wiring should be able to re-cable the alternator main wire. An auto electrician should have no trouble replacing the cable. ;)
Hopefully it's not damaged the alternator.
