Freelander 1 Facelift Dashboard Removal

My facelift Sport has got some annoying hard glue marks on the dash top that I would like to change to a good one.

Has anyone taken the top off the facelift dashboard - is it even possible? Looks like a separate piece, I am talking about the horizontal plastic that runs across to the speedo housing and houses the hazard and rear wiper switches.

Looks like no one has done this. Will have to try on a scrap one and report back.
