Electric seats

Got some leccy seats from a rangie to put into my Disco. I saw a really good article on how to fit them once but can't find it again. Anybody seen anything like? Also, what's the best way to wire them up? (direct feed or loads of relays/new loom)

For others that may like to know, Range rover classic electric seats fit pretty easily into a 300Tdi Disco!

I may not have wired them up in the proper way but they're working and the wires aren't getting hot.

It's a bit fiddly to make the runners fit up to the Disco seat cradle but other than that, quite a simple job.

speking of leccy seats me mate has just fitted some swapped the manual seats in his disco for some electric ones from another disco. So questions time.
Has anyone got the switches for em.
Is the wiring already in place or will he need to buy some cables for em.
Is there a way to temporarily move the seats into a more comfortable position until he can get the switches sorted out.
Anyone got the pinout diagram for the seat connector block. (I thought of applying a 12v supply to the pins just to get them into position.)

hi can anyone help me i have a 1999 disco ll and my passenger seat wont move forwards or back yet it will go up and down and the back rest will move any ideas ?? fuse, loose connection ??

Depends on what you have checked so far.

Could be the switch, a fuse, a relay, connection, motor, cable or even a break in the wire. Check out the Rave CD for more info

If the seats are similar to Rangy Classic ones, they will have one earth connection and 2 positives. I positive is for forward/backward and the other +ve is for the other functions.

I've already got the rave CD The seats have been fitted to a disco that didn't have electric seats before. and my mate didn't get any switches with the seats. but he's gone and fitted them and now he can't move the seats. and the driving position is uncomfertable to say the least. Going to try a 12v supply to the seat connector pins to see if we can get them to move.

On the subject of Disco seats. As many of you will be aware there are 2 different size seats. Now I had always assumed the thinner ones fitted 200tdi seats and the wider ones fitted 300tdi. This is not true! the wider ones fit the late 300tdi's the thinner ones fit 200 AND early 300tdi's. The easiest way to figure out which seats you need is the seatbelt catch. If it is bolted to the centre tunnel. They are the thin seats. If the catch is bolted to the seat they are from a late 300tdi.

Sorry to resurrect this thread but I also am in the same boat as a few others on here!

I went and bought a set of late 300TDI wide track Beige leather seats (electric naturally ) for my 200TDI (narrow track seat frames).

Dickie seats and rear split were no problem as they are basically the same.

The rails on the front being wider on the 300TDI seats, means I have 2 options!

1) to graft them onto the seat frames and do some sort of cunning adaptation, as it looks to me as though the frame they attach to must be quite a bit different on a 300
2) Find somebody who is breaking a late model 300TDI and buy the seat frames from him.

Anybody care to offer some advice about the best way forward.

Unlike one of the chaps on here I have the switches for the seats. The problem I have is I don't have the electrical plugs off the loom for the switches!!!

In answer to who ever it was on here who was asking about moving the seats... I believe it should be possible to temporarily attach a feed to move the seats. I believe there are 8 ways the seat can move and IIRC there are eight wires on the seat plug so its just a matter of playing with the feed until you get it right.

Redhand, if you check the Rave CD for Electrical troubleshooting on the Range Rover, there is a series of tests that can be done for fault finding. This shows the seat multiplug which may be the same as that for Disco seats.

Cut a sheet of steel plate the same size as the seats, drill hole to suit the runners and the frames and bolt together.

Yes that makes sense however the rear bolts on these seats don't bolt in the top like 200 ones the runners have a bracket on the end that is at 90 degrees and the holes are in the 90 degree bit so this does make fabrication a bit more complicated.

I was just wondering if a strip for the front and then a piece of angle on the rear with holes drilled to suit both would work as well and cut down on weight a bit.

What sort of thickness sheet do you think I should use?

Also anybody know how to get 200 seats off the base as the runners don't seem to go back far enough to expose the bolts?
