Replacing my viscous fan for an electric fan and was wondering do I need to put the cowling back on would I get any benefit from putting it back on ?

Bought a 14" fan from bolt on bits ,just got to get my head round wiring it ,I know it's pretty simple but just need to locate a ignition positive in engine bay (got the kit with the in line thermostatic switch)

earth to chassis, battery or body, + to fan, live to battery, feed to relay from ign pos just make a separate circuit as above with the relay to a switch in cab and on thermo switch or use something like sidelight switch if you always have them on

can also then feed in full cut off for wading or emergency on for towing

I fitted a Kenlowe fan. When I contacted Kenlowe regarding the cowling they said it was not needed as the fan has a small sort of cowling. Anyway the original cowling would not fit. I have had the electric fan now for two years and it has only come on once. That was when it was 38 degree's and I had been off roading. When you think how often the electric fan actually works I sometimes wander if a cheaper option would have been best. I have to say the Kenlowe does look well constructed and I have used my Defender crossing rivers, the Kenlowe has stood up well to the abuse. My thinking was, you only want to do the job once so fit the best. If I was doing it again I think I would go for a Kenlowe again. I did see some Chinese imports for about £30, the Kenlowe cost about £110 at the time.
