Hi everyone.
I am considering fitting electric cooling fans on my classic LSE instead of the viscous unit. My question - as the air con no longer works and I really do not intend to fix it - can the two electric fans which are on the air con system be used instead to replace the viscous unit. Obviously I would need to put in a thermostat switching sensor. Would it be ok to leave the fans in their present location or would they be better mounted engine side of the radiator.

Any advice would be much appreciated

are the fans pulling/pushing in the same direction as the current vissy fan?

i should imagine the two fans would perform better than the vissy unit.

just remember the fans are on the aircon heat exchange and would definately need to be on the radiator!!

I think they are pushing air from the outside through the radiator - whereas the visco unit pulls from the outside. Looks like the twin electric fans are mounted on the radiator but will check when the weather gets better

Your viscous fan moves massive air, no electric fan will match it.

Anyway, the A/C fans suck air in, they need to stay in front or your rad. They will cope most of the time but will struggle in traffic on a hot summers day.

I have a pair of 12" Kenlowes on my classic that so far have been O.K. I have also used a single 16" which worked well.

Make sure you get a good thermo switch and you might also think about putting in an override so you can switch the fan(s) off for wading (if you do that sort of thing).
