Having searched well the search section and getting slightly confused  with all the different answers and different theorys, could someone tell me what are the benefits in removing the EGR valve?
Although my defender runs fine at the min... :)
i seem to have this thought in my head now that i must remove it straight away .... is it worth removing??

And should i stop being a tight ass and buy the proper kit? or simply disconect??

If you remove it, it will stop your engine breathing dirty exhausts fumes, instead of clean air.

Benfits may or maynot be noticed. Either way it will be better for your engine.

buy a proper kit and use all the bits i tried just replacing the valve and left the flexi pipe connected + blocked off untill a week later it fell left me with anoisey exhaust and no turbo pressure:doh:

I removed it on my 300tdi but only because the exhaust was very smokey.
There was some build up of oily crappy bits inside the hose and intercooler. I used the full kit and removed the EGR valve and fitted a new hose, cleaned the intercooler out with petrol. Blew compressed air through it to dry it then refitted.
I noticed a difference. But i have replaced them when they haven't been faulty and there isn't really any difference except you dont get all the oily crap going into the intercooler

Never mind the intercooler if you want to see proper oily crap look in the inlet manifold.
The intercooler will just have oil from the turbo seals as per all turbo diesels, but the manifold will have carbon snot and oil from the egr.

if it doesnt make a diffrence when you disconnect it then the egr may be stuck open and you should block it off
