Hi Folks, I've had my '95 Discovery 300tdi XS now for about 3 weeks :D and already i wanna start playing with it, Its my first landy (but not my first 4x4 ) and i've heard about the EGR blanking plate, just wondered if removing the EGR show up any diagnostic faults. Not worried about fitting coz i'm lucky and have the use of a workshop and friendly (most of the time) mechanic. Thanks

Not quite sure what you mean here. Are you asking it De-EGRing will trigger fault codes?

Is your vehicle an auto, with EDC? Because if it's not I don't think it has an ECU to have fault codes logged into it??

If it is auto, when I did mine it was straightforward and did make a difference to bottom end power, without any downsides and subsequently passed it's Contrôle Technique with an emissions level of 0.9 out of 3, so an excellent result.

Sorry if i sound a little ignorant but my mech tells me that disconecting the egr valve on any motor should bring up the EML dash warning light and .
Its a 300tdi manual. Also looking at a De-cat and removing the centre box in the exhaust.

Hi,

My disco has had the egr removed and i'v just de-cat her and it is good gives you a bit more power and does not trigger any warning lights or that, hope that helps, i'v got a 300tdi manual.

Cheers mate, haven't seen any negative reasons to not do this just that most times something this easy and cheap isn't always the best thing and can lead to bigger probs down the line.

Hi JC, as I said before, if yours is manual, which it is, then there's no ECU to worry about. Your mechanic doesn't know LR's then does he !!!!

Incidently, when you change the exhaust downpipe for a de-cat one, the cheapest way of doing it is to use a Defender one ESR2997 from memory avail from Paddocks £21.25+vat. The Disco one has a flexy portion in it but is three times more expensive - you pays yer money etc..............

Also Paddocks are now doing a 300TDI Sports exhaust for £34.50+vat with a centre pipe in lieu of the silencer !! Cheap eh!!

Cheers

Dave
