Having recently had to disassemble various bits from the top of my engine (injector leakback issues) I noticed that the steel flexi pipe going from the egr cooling unit to the egr appears to be broken. Such fumes are escaping. Rather than replace this the plan is to use some fire putty/tape on this, but I have a question. Would this broken flexi pipe cause excess smoking in the same way as a intercooler hose split would? The reason I ask is that having put everything back together it's doing just that and I can't see any splits or bad joins on the rubber hoses.
I suppose I'll find out once I try the repair job on the egr flexi pipe- for anyone unsure of the pipe I'm talking about see http://completed.shop.ebay.co.uk/i.html?rt=nc&LH_Complete=1&_nkw=egr%20cooling&_fln=1&_trksid=p3286.c0.m283&_rdc=1
