Egr cooler, rather than removal?

I removed my egr, all well and good. Now I am reading more about egr, I see it may help fuel efficiency rather a lot on the motorway cruise and as long as it is shut off at higher throttle settings, it need not rob performance where needed. Has anyone here put in an egr cooler on a 300 rather than a strip out? If so, how did it go?
 
EGR is exhaust gas recirculation. It injects an inert gas (exhaust gas) into the combustion chamber to reduce PEAK combustion temps and ultimately reduce Nox emissions. It is operated by a valve, so functions under normal driving, but shuts off at wide open throttle.

Don't believe all you read. Have you ever wondered why non EGR and EGR on the same engine produces the same fuel consumption figures. Read up on how diesel engines work, they are throttled by fuel not by air. There is no fuel reduction when EGR is operating just oxygenated air reduction.

Wammers has a good point. Without inlet throttling, the pumping losses are lower at lower throttle settings than a normal petrol engine, but they are still there to some degree, as the inlet tract has natural throttling from the air filter, etc.

Logically it has to be efficient to recirculate some exhaust, as long the air is not diluted to far too support satisfactory combustion. It is going to reduce exhaust back pressure and turbo inlet vacuum. Perhaps the inevitable sooting up of the inlet manifold soon overcomes any efficiency gain.

Jap import 300's have water cooled EGRs and I think I still have mine in the shed along with the required pipework. You're more than welcome to it if you want it.
