Hi, I am going to blank off my egr this weekend and was wondering if I could just put the blanking plate between the egr unit and mounting point using a couple of gaskets either side of the blank plete and disconnect the electrics. Would this eliminate the need to replace the intercooler pipe and egr spur or dare I say it 'AM I BEING THICK' ? At least if anyone wanted to put it back on in the future it would already be there and not lost in a box in the garage.

If u want to do the simple thing then just clean the EGR valve to be certain that it's not blocked on open position...then unplug the vacuum pipe and clog it with a screw or something as to not lose vacuum. This way the EGR valve will stay closed cos there'll be no vacuum to open it. in this case u dont need any blanking plate and to reactivate it u just have to plug the vacuum back......simple as that.
