Hi, got my 99 plate 300tdi and getting cam belt and altenator done this weekend as promised by dealer at his garage.....Next weekend I am going to tackle the EGR, bought it with top intercooler to manifold hose, also heard its best to clean the inlet manifold....whats the best way to go about that? I am being kind by saying I have basic knowledge, will be working alonside my father in law who was a diesel fitter though so heres hoping.... If I have time, its a de-cat as well (Got to check it has one yet :)) Any problems or advice then please post!

Your TDi 300 from the factory would have had one, so unless someone before you has swapped it out you will have a catted exhaust.

Part number ESR2297 is the way to go: Paddocks do them for about £20+vat and it's an easy job to do.

Benefits: better breathing engine means more responsive and or better mpg. DOES NOT adversely affect mot results.

Cheers mate, much appreciated. Already bought the pipe like, should have mentioned its for a Disco too.

de-cat and de-egr has no bearing on the mot at all except probably hepling it pass mine's just passed without either and the engine is running cleaner and breathing easier, the cat isnt really a cat its a particulate filter, imho the best thing you can do to your engine is get rid of em.

as for cleaning out the manifold; you've got to take it off ( get a new gasket before you start) then dump the thing in a bucket of paraffin ( petrol will also do) to soak, meanwhile you can pleasure yourself with removing the exhaust manifold - you need to do this to fit the new gasket ( clever sods at LR decided to make it a single gasket system), then when alls clean you put it back together minus the egr
