justa thought Si - remove it from there and try it with a mag mount or summat - it might be because the aerial goes thru yo gutter and that will act like a big capacitor.

Run a thick wire from the earth point of the arial to the chassis or the battery -ve terminal.

My arial is mounted in the centre of the roof. I couldn't get a decent SWR until I put a biscuit tin lid under the mount (on the inside) with a thick wire running to the battery -ve. Now it's 1.1:1.
