p38 40ltr 1994 i have fuel , i have spark , but the two NEVER seem to be together (as in firing )it has back fired once or twice (down the exhaust) could the ecu be out of "sinc" if you can understand what im trying to get at . the plugs are fouling with excesive fuel and the spark seems ok new plugs and leads .. could it be cam or crank sensor , but if it was crank sensor would i get spark ???//? ive looked thru links but i cant find roughly what i need dont mind spending if its right part but dont want to cough up for nowt im in merthyr tydfil if any one could possibly help

has this peoblem just started or has it never run, what work has been/have you done recently.

i would first check the leads are on the correct plugs and pushed fully home!

the coil pack located at the rear of the engine is numbered 1 to 8 and the cylinders are pulley to rear of engine:

coil pack
8 7
6 5
4 3
2 1
pulleys
radiator

well i think thats how they go. all the odds on one side all the evens on the other.

also check the two plugs at the back passenger side bank are connected and fully home.

cheers for the fast reply gav yes leads are correct and tight just been back over it AGAIN in case the closest link i can find is a 87 efi? link saying his fuel rail was flooding his pots seems some one had messed with the air mass meter causing the ecu to pop . it has been running recently i changed the gearbox over crimbo thats how i found out the box is in limp mode , im hoping it just needs the fault codes clearing ! when you can get it to start it seems to run sweet ive even pressure checked some of the pots 170psi ish so it seems in order

Take the lower flywheel plate off behind the sump and inspect the tangs that the crank sensor reads, also make sure the crank sensor is not damaged.Look at the circular plate the crank sensor is mounted in,sometimes the 2 tack welds break allowing the plate to turn.

when we changed the box we removed the c sensor so not to damage it as for the tangs we were carefull to to hit or bend them but i WILL check them would the crank sensor come with a new bracket do you know? the swine was like this before we changed the box so i think ill change the crank sensor anyway thank you 8inav
