After reading some of the comments made on another thread, I'll be interested to know what people are getting to the gallon from 300 tdi's. I now know, thanks to this forum, there are a few mods that can be done to increase MPG, but I reckon getting better economy also has a lot to do with how you drive? I need max economy from mind because it is my every day car and I have a long drive to work. So, I drive it very carefully and have worked out that I'm getting an average of just over 40 mpg, (unless my Maths is way out!). What do you think? Is this possible, or am I crap at maths? 😄

As I said on my other thread 24-27mpg for mine. on my old standard 300 I would see around 26-30mpg. If your bothered that your math are wrong try a site called Fuelly | Share and Compare Your MPG. Sign up is free. Enter your vehicle specs, how much fuel in ltrs you have put it, and how much per ltr. And then add how many miles covered on that tank of fuel. it also allows you to record part fills aswell

ok just done it for you based on 89ltrs at 1.35 per ltr on 600 miles
MPG: 30.6
L/100km: 9.2
km/L: 10.8
Miles: 600.0
Litres: 89.000
Price: £1.350/Litre
Total: £120.150

I didn't do anything as involved as that. I just topped it up and counted how much it cost. Then I worked out out how many gallons it was by converting from litres and working out how many litres the cost bought at 142.9p per litre, (in hindsight, it would have been easier to take a note of the litres from the pump!). Basically, I usually have to top it up with £50 and for that I'm getting about 320 miles at £1.43 a litre.

I could only dream of that! I get 25 if I'm lucky on a mixture of 4 miles stop/start 30mph road and 4 miles of dual carriageway per work journey. That is with 265/75/16 mud terrains though.

I tried driving really economically on one tank, I.e. hardly using the brakes, engine off wherever possible and avoiding boost. I actually ended up getting worse mpg!

400 miles tops out of a full tank on mine. It's usually done a days laning at some point during that tank full.

Fully off road equipped 300tdi Auto on Insa Special Tracks, so not too bad, in my opinion. :)

Since I've been in France the best I've had from a tank is 550 before the fuel light comes on. However, as has been said a zillion times, if you own a 300tdi forget about the fuel costs....

who gives a fook..

spg is far more important

if your that worried about mpg then you should have bought a diesal fiesta

All my driving life I've been as tight as a ducks arse when it comes to MPG, up to getting my Disco that is and now I don't give a toss, I just love driving it, it does all I ask of it, just love every time I start it, the engine grumbles into life and is ready.
Yep, I'm with you wiltshire landyman , it's def SPG all the way.:D:D:D

I also am with the majority, Its a 2 and a half litre turbo diesel that weighs over 2 ton.. But it's mine and i love it, and who gives a crap about the mpg/ fuel costs etc etc, £50 quid in at a time a few hundred miles later and many a days of enjoying my Disco, the yellow light might flicker on, so £50 quid in again.... I'm loving it.

Ooh and p.s. What is SPG ?? i know, I'm Thick..

I can get 35MPG at 60 on the motorway and about 20 if local driving. But, I'm also with the majority. Stick as much fuel in as you can afford jump in, take it for a drive and then measure the smile from ear to ear - not measure the MPG.
