Was looking to get some chains very soon for the next onslaught of snow (rubs hand together) and was wondering if these cheap ones off ebay would be any good or just break?

Or whether it is worth spending more and getting better (Presumably!) ones from the snowchains.com website which I found on here when i searched about it...

Also, "These chains are also suitable for mud applications" !

Would you think there would be a massive difference? I'd rather not buy cheap-buy twice!

Thanks :)

You'll get more hassle than it's worth in the UK using chains, e.g. bills for damage to road surface etc. ... plus there'll be damage to the wheels & tyres too ... fair enough if you're in a snow/ice bound country for months on end but not here in blighty surely.

Yes sure, on the road I hope I won't need them, but I regularly need to go up and down steep lanes and fields etc, and though these would be handy, the second link about can be used in mud for extra grip too which would be good.

I've just had some AT2s fittied a few weeks ago which were fairly good the last bit of show but they're not winter tyres!

How much do they damage the tyres? Don't mind about the wheels too much.

If the chains are sized and fitted properly and you dont go too heavy on the loud pedal you wont cause any damage to wheels or tyres. I carry a set in my 90 but have never yet had to use them in the UK. I bought them when I spent a winter in Norway several years ago. They were on the motor pretty much all of the time except when driving into major towns where the police make your wallet much lighter if you're caught using them.
