Hi Guys, Sorry for my 1st post to be a problem but needs must and all that.

We're currently experiencing huge problems with a defender 300 Tdi. The team who currently use the car in the desert run large Amp electrical equipment from it. They have so far killed 6 different batteries. The vehicke has 2 batteries to try and cope but the standard alternator just doesn't seem upto it.

Having been advised that it's not safe to put a single 150 Amp alternator in a defender we've decided to go down the route of possibly fitting twins.

Now the big question is has anyone done it before and if so how?

you can fit twin alternators, yes it has been done many times. do you have air con? if not you can mount the 2nd alt where the aircon unit should be. this is the easiest method as you can then run an aircon belt and keeps things fairly standard. with regards to wiring you just need to run everything to/from the 2nd batt and you may want to seperate the warning light on the dash so you know which batt/alt is at fault. or simply scotch lok the connection into the existing one.
