Driving without front propshaft.

Aft'noon all.
Just discovered the UJs on my front prop are shagged. Is there any issue with removing and driving with difflock engaged until I have replaced it?

Need to go out in an hour!
 
if it seizes your be ****ed when prop flays round, diff lock would be temp measure with prop off

Im doing the opposite at the mo, rear prop off, driving on front, feels wierd, but its fine for a temp measure, hopefully my UJ will be waiting for me when I get home.
 
I have driven with the front prop out and found it had loads of back lash from the drivetrain, not comfortable!

It will invalidate your insurance too

I guess there are plenty of Freelanders driving round with no insurance then....

I agree with you about the backlash :rolleyes:

Does it invalidate insurance because it's insured as a 4wd vehicle?

I think so, yes. I would guess that it constitutes a notifiable modification to the vehicle for the purposes of the terms of the insurance policy.
 
try front only, not pleasant. but it gets you around, my front drivetrain does have more play that the rear, 2wd seems to exacerbate it.
Thinking about getting some new front flanges, they ones that are on are a little worn, never thought about the insurance.
I kept the prop in the back, I carry tools, so if something did happen, a reasonable get out would be, it started seizing when I was driving, took it off to get to destination/home as that would be safer than a prop snapping/seizing on the highway :)
