recentley had a problem with drivers door couldn't get it to set EKA code, had a new door locking system installed at strathstones for £225.41 to get car running,,,,,,,,, now have errors on passenger door, sunroof, srs and abs lights flashing and bleeping. strathstones of nottingham want to charge me again for dnynostic to fault find, when there was nothing wrong with them in the first place. cars worse now than when they started but they won't accept any liability, told me its an old car 1996, and these problems due occur due to fitting new parts.

any advice or comments would be very welcomed
i am stunned and feel i have been conned :mad::mad:

After fitting the parts, whether it's a door lock or headlight bulb, they should check everything is working as it should and if needs be, double checking functions on Test Book.
Obviously, someone has only done half the job.
Don't care if it's a 1936 model..you have paid for the job and it should be right.
Take it back and demand they put it right or give you a refund..there & then.

thats what i said irish but you said it so nicely.:D:D;)

thank you for all your comments
they told me they were only asked to fit door control and get car running
They wanted to do the decm but wanted £600.00 + vat and also £225.00 to fit new passenger door control and this would solved the problem hopefully they said
I dont think they have put a test book on it at all, they do have the EKA code which they tried to sell me for £20.00 but i refused as it should be included in price anyway
Im not sure where to go or see about this
tried talking to them but they are addiment its the age of the car
I need someone that knows alot about these range rovers like inside out

Have you tried disconnecting the battery to reset the system?

I got my EKA code free by calling the local dealers with my vin number but it was no use anyway. If they are trying to charge you just give a different one a call.

I found another post on this site saying there is sometimes a generic code EKA code used which worked for me and might be worth a try - 1515

i needed my EKA code so i called BARRETTS in Canterbury(where my car was originaly bought)and a very nice sounding girl at the other end just asked me for the VIN number and gave me the code over the phone,so maybe give them a try(just google BARRETTS for the number)

hi to all
thanks for comments but, i dare not touch this car at minute as i only got it back today.
had problems since last wednesday when the batteries in the key fob were changed, car wouldnt start again
i had to get it down to strathstones by AA as they dont have a breakdown truck.
sadly ive had nothing but hassle and tears since, thought at 42 i would treat myself and change my disco 1999 gs 4.0l s2 for a rangee, wish i had never bothered
I am interested in finding out where i can buy a test book from to test them
stop strathstones ripping people off at £50.00 per hour

BlackBox Systems sell them - not cheap, but worth the money. A single vehicle licence plus the hardware will set you back around £500, plus you will need a laptop to hook it up to, or for around £600 you can buy the Extreme version that doesn't need the laptop.
Try to get your problems sorted without the stealer involved and don't give up on your Rangie - they are fantastic vehicles if you take the time to learn a bit about them you will save loads. Lots of people on this forum are very helpful and have learned all there is to know about the P38!!

You may want to try the Leicester stealers for the EKA code - Sturgess - or the Derby bunch. Worth a try anyhow. I'm afraid from the sound of it, the stealer has done you over and the techs know very little about the p38 in these places as they have been off main dealer floors for many years now - obviously, the battery was disconnected and not properly resynced (windows etc set) when reattached. You need the EKA, you also need a manual sunroof tool and the radio code - all should have been supplied with the car when sold to you and you can get them from a stealer although they can charge.....

If the BECM needs to be unlocked, you can send it for repair - there are a number of guys visiting the forum who can do this - for a helluva lot less than £600!!

Don't give up on the Rangie yet! This all seems to have been caused by the stealer and no, its got zip to do with the "age" of the car!!!

thanks guy's
you people are fantastic, thanks for support
thinking about setting up a landy-rangee breakers in nottingham that also does this test book and fault finding with conversion on body and suspension
i bought the p38 because i think the newer ones lose the character, people have advised me to leave mine as it is, i was going to do the headlight conversion
Will look into strathstones and find out just what they have done,
BIG THANKYOU TO ALL

why have you painted lines around your car??

on a more serious note, i would get the eka code, then disconnect the battery and see if the door lock works and faults disappear. ideally you should have asked for the old part so you could get it independantly tested!

also check the earth points and the alternator wires and its function. low power or poor earths can cause similar symptoms to what you describe and i suspect they have had the battery leads of to replace the door mech(LR recomend removing battery for jobs like this) if they have left it loose then its a bit of amunition for you!

The lines round my car are my disabled box as i damaged my spine 13 years ago
will try disconnecting battery and see what happens
Only have one key with this car and they quoted £110.00 + vat for a spare key
is the price about right for a key ????
do any of you know where to find a nice clean cream leather interior with red pippeing and red carpet

key price is fine, you have to go through dealer cos they send it to germany/order it from germany!

you will have to keep your eyes peeled for the interior as tthey are sought after!

just a quick message
spoke to strathstones today about old door mec, told me they skipped it yesterday, didnt think i would want it, test book doesnt give computer printout on paper of what has been tested
took battery off today twice but is still doing same, telling me pass door open
Hunters of derby have said they havent done the job properly
strathstones wont have another look without me paying to have it dyagnosed £50 + vat
Pendragon dont want to know
The good news is i now have the proper EKA code number so i may have another play and see whats what
I am going to buy one of those test book systems and look at going mobile testing,
was going to sell her, but had a change of heart
thanks to all

Steve, spoke to my friendly mobile Land Rover mechanic today about this and he was horrified- you really should pursue Stratstones via Trading Standards. This chap thinks he will be able to help you with your RRs problems though, - he covers the whole Midlands - its worth giving him a ring and discussing it with him. I've sent you his number via PM, his name is Jason and he travels to your car, not the other way round :)

Seriously, he did a great job recently on replacing all three blend motors on my Rangie for £340 (yes, that included the £200+ for the parts alone !!):D
