Good evening, all - daft question time !!

I have a problem with the driver's door lock barrel on my '51 TD4 - LandRover quote £162 for a replacement !! As an alternative to spending that much cash, could I just get a barrel lock and key from, say, a breaker, and fit that ? I know that it would mean another key on the ring, but that would be worth it for the peace of mind, knowing that I could still get into/lock the car manually if the remote failed.

Presumably it would not be necessary to code the key to the ECU ?

And could a lock/key off an earlier than 2001 model FL be used ?

Hi I've got the same problem, main dealer has quoted me £250 for a new barrel, that's assuming that the locks have never been changed, if they have then my key won't fit the new one, and I will be £250 out of pocket.
I'm like you, I would be happy to be able to open the door if the remote fails, and am not bothered if I have an extra key.
Anyone out there got a barrel and key for sale?
I asked the parts bloke and he said the key doesn't need to be coded for the door lock, so in theory any barrel will do so long as it fits and connects to the relevant parts of the central locking

£162!just get in passenger door as if your waiting for driver then when know ones looking quickly jump across and drive;)

The simple answer is yes, you can fit a second hand one...........
You will obviously have 2 keys but it is do-able, They aren't coded to the vehicle via a door lock so it is a straight forward fix.
