One of the guys who normally drives vans for us had to drive the defender into London with extra supplies for the show. Left the Landy in the yard, I hop in to move it, diff lock lights on with it engaged in high diff. Transmission feels relatively normal, clutch feels ok however I've been told to not go over 40mph with diff lock in as it damages the gearbox. Are there any issues? Feels different, just need to know if there are any issues, imagine he's been going 70 mph for 2-3 hrs. 2010 2.4 TDCi 110 thanks

ive known people do several hundred miles over a week with diff lock in it would hurt gearbox more strain diffs or scrub tyres or uj etc in good nick it wouldnt cause serious issue but will show a weak point like a poor uj

Most of us run silly offroad tyres that would give easier then grippy slicks on good tarmac. It will put extra strain but shouldn't blow anything up more likley to show up issues and increase wear. As said in bad weather on tarmac partcially ice and snow covered but not entirly covered for 40 miles up to 60 mph no issues. I have done this for years backwards and forwards to work. If there is a particularly good clear stretch then I knock difflock out no matter what speed aslong as the props are splinning at the same speed

same thing. kick out diff lock at speed...;)dip the clutch or neutral for a few seconds then back to gear

Low to high and high to low you can do on the move quite quickly its something I have practiced a fair bit. Doing it whilst crossing boggy ground that slows you up real quick is an art and i'm getting better at it.
