On start up, loud screeching noise that sounds like classic drive belt
slippage. Also since it worsens when under load eg aircon added. But
looking at drive belt set up, looks as if tensioner automatically picks up
slack etc.

Or should I be worrying about something more dramatic / expensive?

Thanks for any thoughts

Nah, that would be far too easy and cheap to fix. I think its far more
likely to be LR part no. A564678455X which connects the alternator,
water pump, power steering pump and AC pump - trouble is the price
to fix it and the complete dismantling of the front end to gain access.

Probably cheaper buying a new LR!!

Can't say I am aware of an automatic tensioner my former V8 and now TDi200
are both manually adjusted.

are made

If it's a 300Tdi, that has an auto tensioner. Bearings go in the tensioner
fairly regularly - not too difficult a job from what I've read.

Mind you, on my Disco, aircon has a separate belt, which is manually
tensioned.

Cheers!
