hi all, hope you can help!!!

i have a 98 disco 300 tdi, it shreaded the rear rubber dougnut which sits between the rear prop and the diff.
i replaced it including the really annoying bearing thingy. did everything up nice and tight and its shreading the new one after 2-3months of use, none of which was major off road.
any ideas why this is happening again??
what can i do to stop it happening again??
many thanks
james.

Hi James, check the alignment between the propshaft and the diff from the side.

hi, it wasnt a genuine part, i have standard height suspension.

will replace again with genuine!

what am i looking for with the alingment?? it has a bigger gap at the bottom then the top, but thats just from the angle of the prop.
cheers

forgot to ask before......
im supossed to be traverling from oxfordshire to pembrokeshire about 400 miles round trip on wednesday night, at the momment there is no vibration from the dougnut, just visual deteriation. will it hold out, whats the worst that could happen??

whats the worst that could happen??

Worse case, a 'flailling' propshaft as speed could rip the out the bottom of the disco, brake and fuel lines and even lift the disco off the ground before breaking away fully.

Mine has a couple of small cracks in the rubber, anyone know if it be an MOT failure??

Vehicle transmission is not a testable in an MOT according to the MOT manual.

You'll get plenty of advance notice of failure, they don't fail 'instantly'.

Our Disco 2 V8 has the vibration at 65mph and has done 700 miles like it. New doughnuts should be here today, one to fit and one spare.

hi all, i would recomend removing the rubber dougnut, go to your local scrap yard look for a 200tdi disco remove ther prop, and you will need the flange off the diff you will need take the little spacer from behind, the take the prop off yours and the flange this will be lot more durable than the rubber dougnut.

done it myself and done more than 3000miles and it lifted 4".

hope this helps

hi, all.
just to let you know i have sorted it out.
Got hold of a 200 tdi rear prop with all the gubbins.
the hardest part was taking the spigot off. i just poped a small piece of bar down the hole in the centre then screw in a bolt behind it and the spigot slowly came off, bobs your uncle!!
took about half hour!!
thanks for all you help!!
jimbo!
