Guys,

I'm just coming to an end of a 1984 Landrover 110 restore and I'm trying to figure out how I can secure or lock the doors. I'm dealing with the old lift door locks handles. I don't have a key for the old barrels that's in it. Can these barrels be got or what is my options for locking the doors.

Thanks in advance....

Easier to buy the lock & handle as a complete unit but barrels & keys can be bought from paddocks ect

I just did this on the same type doors that your talking about.

Lift handle on the outside and pull flap thing on the inside? If yes then read on...

You need a different barrel type to other doors / ignition. MUC4146 is the part number.

on the back of the mechanisum there is a small bolt (8mm) held in place by the washer with flaps that sit on the bolt's sides. undo that bolt and keep it safe along with the washer. Then put something long and thin down the whole and push the lock out. Out of the back (same side as the bolt) another part will come out, which we will call the thingy, which you will need to re-fit.

Put the lock in with the teeth out (i.e. key removed) so you can only put it in the one correct way. Then put the thingy in, it will only go in one way too as there is a flat part to the lock barrel end, and there are TWO BALL BEARINGS tucked away in there. Put the bolt back in and tighten it all up. I had to soak the thing with releasing fluid to get the lock out, plus to make the ball bearings move again. It was confusing as the lock didn't seem to turn when it was in the barrel, but after I got the ball bearings moving again and did do the bolt up too tight, it works like new.

This is much easier with the mech removed from the door FYI!

Would take a photo but I've JUST put my doors back together.

Super post - Thank you so much for all the info....

Do you know what Barrel I need for the Rear Door / Safari Door?

Without seeing the door, I'm not happy to guess, but if it's a lifting handle on both sides (like mine) then it would be .... er... anyone of these. They all look right (i did that lock too not long ago), I'm guessing the different part numbers seem to be a different shapped key???

It doesn't say in your post if doors are fitted at the mo. If they are and just locks that are the issue, ignore this. If not, remember, you may need different strikers for the lift handle type doors as different to push button strikers.

Doors are fitted back up and working perfectly, i just need to be able to lock the thing as I wasn't before the refurb

Ah, good stuff.
John Craddock Ltd in Stafford still do the MUC4146 if it's any help. At least they did about a month ago when I was having the same issue as you. Good luck truck looks nice

Not 100% but if the back door has a lift up handle internal and external then I think it's a different part number again, and not MUC4146. Although not sure what it is as mines a pick up so only did the fronts. Soz fella. Good luck

Lads,

What's the problem here.

Is it the wrong door locks that was in the jeep. The barrel is hidden, I can't get near it...

What door locks do i need?

Take the door lock off, then look at the barrel cylinder & you may find a small hole to release the barrel.
Push small drill/pop rivet end to release spring loaded pin. Insert something into the key slot to pull out the barrel

Hope this helps
