My dads car broke down on Xmas day, td4 2003.
It just suddenly lost all power and engine died, and was leaking diesel as he was trying to start?

He is not very happy and wants me to swap it for my smart roadster.

DO I SWAP??

ps I think it's the diesel pump, what do you guys/girls think?

Hi,
I have owned a Roadster and whilst Freelanders are far from perfect, I found the Roadster to be one of the most fragile cars that I have ever owned. I won't go into detail here but as you have one you'll no doubt be familiar with the weird semi auto type gearbox, clutch adjustment and readjustment, the fact you have to virtually strip the wneite back end off just to change the spark plugs, the leaks whenever it rains, the fact that for a 700cc engine the fuel economy isn't great and the fact that whilst they are quick off the mark, they don't have long legs and on the motorway they're revving away before you've even hit 70 - and of course the very friendly Mercedes dealers who are always very happy to relieve you of that annoying excess cash in your bank account whenever an issue arises (such as £700+ to replace an alternator).

That having been said - they do look pretty cool and always manage to turn heads.

Andy.
