Hi all! My TD4 Freelander 1 has been standing for 2 years. I need a new battery but what else will I need to do to start it? It was running fine when I wrapped it up and er had to go away.

Adding a good quantity of fresh fuel will help, as diesel becomes stale after 6 months or so,but dilution with fresh will help overcome that.
Obviously make sure all the levels are correct.

Front disc calipers likely to be binding. Pins or pistons get seized without use. Hope you left the handbrake off or that will be stuck on too!!

Yes I left the handbrake off. It’s been covered up and seems like it hasn’t suffered too much. I am thinking the battery in it will be useless now so have to get a new one?

Gonna give it a go on Sunday I reckon. Gotta do the fuel cradle too but may see if there’s any life in the car before waving spanners at it.

Bought a new battery. Put it in. Started absolutely straight away. First turn of the key. Everything works. What can I say….???

Oh ye of little faith. Unless you are referring to the upcoming fuel cradle surgery in which case you may be correct. Here’s a photo anyway

That is one of them jobs you ended up worrying and putting it off but when you do get it done it’s a simple straightforward job and so just do it tomorrow

I dented it by dropping my motorcycle on the car. First time I have damaged 2 of my own vehicles at once. That’s how I roll

Ouch. At least you know who to shout your mouth off to!

Ours has a dent on it to. Done by some little runt on his scooter in the park carpark while the dog was being walked.

Can't say I've damaged 2 of my vehicles at the same time - I can only do maintenance on 1 at a time ;)

I have though reversed 1 of our Mitsubishi Canters into 1 of our Toyota Corollas at work
