DIY Vinyl Wrap

Morning all.

Instead of having my 90 re-sprayed, I was thinking of using vinyl.

Had a quote for a professional job of £1,000!!!!!!! So that’s not happening.

But as the material is only about £4.00 a metre. I was going to have a go. It’s not like the Defender has a great deal or swoops, curves and louvers!

Any one ever tried it?

no, but i think you would be mad to try it yourself.

Have you tried that black out window stuff yourself? I couldnt get it right, so no way would I try the entire vehicle. Just buy some nato paint and roller it on. wout cost you a weekend and £50 all in.

i agree with g..i was quoted £1500 for my defender so a grand is cheap..
if youve ever tried to apply window film and end up with bubbles and creases everywhere youll know how difficult it is.my friend done my windows and used a squirty bottle and proper applicators and even that was a bastid to do..
there is a vinyl signwriters next to where i work and i watched them doing a complete vinyl wrap on a ford transit and the end result was stunning.it took 3 of them and they had allsorts of hot air applicators and rollers and tools.i wouldnt even go no where near any vehicle even a landrover with its flat panels and have a go,youll end up with a big ball of material on the floor..
i am doing a respray on my 90 in the next couple of weeks and its gonna cost me about £200 in materials

How about clingfilm that'll wrinkle up the same and is dirt cheap so you won;t mind ripping it off cause it looks crap LOL

Vinyl is a bugger to apply! I brush paint my landy every 3 or 4 years with Blackfriars Machinery & Metal paint - you can order it in large tins, and goes on like a dream only drawback is there isn't a huge amount of colours to choose from! good luck with whatever you decide!

I once put a vinyl roof on my old Ford Escort.
Not as easy as it looks though and it was a bastid getting the edges tucked under the gutter trim.
The vinyl was a lot thicker than the stuff they use to do the body wraps. I did it to cover up the various rust spots and tiny dings but paint would have been easier and cheaper. I never did get it to look as good as a professional job.
