Following on from another thread about bio %s, heres a pasted quote of what I did say there,like,....

"A bigger issue is the increasing algal infestation of mineral/bio pump fuel. Way back when I was working in a indy LR place,10 plus years ago, the boss showed me this fuel conditioner that got rid of the algae......"what algae?" says I, never having heard or seen such. Now , if we leave our tractors or diggers more than a week unused there is such a build up that the engines wont run. Even using SolTron additive we get it to a lesser extent . I havent noticed it in engines run with WVO/petrol mix used with the drizzle,ad hoc. Strange, that "

the point here is, that since the biocides on sale are so sodding expensive , does anyone have any (serious) ideas on a recipe or single ingredient to use in the place of expensive off the shelf stuff ?

Well either no-one's got an answer or it's not as big a problem as we're being led to believe. However it does concern me because depending on my work rota my Rangie might not turn a wheel for two or three weeks at a time. I came across MARINE 16 as a treatment. It's certainly cheaper than anything I've found on the shelf of any car shop and, if my back of the envelope calculations are correct, it's costing me about a quid per tankful. Being used by the RNLI and the Marines helped sway me as well.

Thanks mate . Its certainly a problem in my local farming community and in the NYFD on long island,NY,USA.

Marine 16 ? From chandlers, I take it . The fuel algae thing has been put down ,on marine installs at least , to the temp variations and condensation , damp etc ....maybe the same applies to machinery left outside and not used for weeks..???
