Hi all, I know this question would have been asked a number of times but I can't seem to find the right answer on the forums, at least not for an early vehicle like mine. I recently acquired a 1990 Discovery 1V8 and the heater blower isn't working. I have checked the fuses & relay and power is getting to the heater blower slider switch and power is coming from the switch at the various speed settings, so the fault must be beyond the switch.

It is most likely the fan motor which is faulty but is there any way to get to that without removing the whole dash which is what I understand needs to be done to remove it totally. It would be good to check that the power is getting to the fan itself to eliminate any other inline faults.

Could the problem also be the resistors in the circuit as identified on the wiring diagram? Can these be got to without removing the dash?

As usual any help and comments would be much appreciated!

Think you have to remove the dash. The fan stopped working on my Disco when I had it on the road. Mine was H plate, so similar age.

Mine is a late facelift, so quite possibly totally different... but the blower can be removed from under the passenger footwell in about 5 minutes.

It might be worth investigating if you can get to the plug, to see if the power makes it that far.

Do you mean a 300Tdi with the completely different dash & interior?

The earlier disco (200 series) is fitted with the old RR fan which is which is fitted horizontal but it can be seen…just. Unlike the 300 series which is under the glove box.
My RR fan bearings seized so wouldn't spin, and so the fan was replaced, the workshop manual showed how but I left it to a LR garage.

If fan speed resistor fails, it appears from various posts to leave the normal speed only… fast.

Thanks for the responses, I think it is a full dash remove. I will start and se if there are any 'shortcuts' to get to the fan!!
