Yep, but didn't really like the idea. Sticky stuff over the rims and a nightmare to get the tyre off if in the field.

Beadlocks are around £200 for a kit of 4 normally aren't they?

Kits I have looked at before (and at one point was very close to buying) didn't have any kind of spacer ring as far as i know.

The thing which put me off mainly was the weight and lack of rim self cleaning after heavy mud, when laning I didn't fancy 4 wheels full of mud and then undriveaboe on the A roads after, I between lanes or whatever.

Another thing is never fully grasped was single beadlocks, but I guess the outer head takes much more stick than the inner, and we're not on 20s so inner rings would t fit round the brakes.

Good shout though Ian if you can get the price down, because they're definitely a necessity for many people!

The sets are around that price and much more in many cases.

The outside has a bead locker only because you just don't get the lateral forces at the same level on the inside of the tyre.

Self cleaning is an interesting problem that I will look at today as see what can be done although I suspect it would be a case if removing the wheel to clean it out properly as in every other case of fitting them I have known.

I wonder if Mach 5s would clean themselves better than modulars/8 spokes?

Mack 5's are by good wheels and as they are an open design they do work well at keeping clean. My mate has the copies and at £95 each are better value.

However both the copies and the modular steel wheels have a design floor in as much as the lip on them forces debris into the tyre bead. Alloys, like the boost and standard discovery ones, have a closer more rounded lip and therefore debris is simply pushed away.

Yeah, on that note I am forced to keep 35psi in my tyres now as it helps considerably in preventing muck ingress.

This pains me because it is no good for grip and makes for a hard ride, although it does help the mpg and my quarter mile times

I run 30 psi in my GT Radial Adventuros, I would like to run less in the rough but can't. Hence beadlockers popped in my head last year.

I used to air down to 12psi for pnp and it was great, but the constant mud/logs/small children in bead annoyed me, until I eventually popped a head down a v gulley which was an absolute swine and made me realise I didn't fancy that problem again so haven't aired down past 20psi since.

Steering was heavy at 12 pounds but grip was dependable!!

Also I've heard that std alloys are a bit tighter fit!

Well the drawings and the models have been sent off to the engineering firm for a price so as soon as I get one I can let you guys know.

I also will try and make the outer rings in various designs but will keep the sizes to 15 & 16" only for the moment.

Another thing I'm doing is a tank guard. I will have the base bent from one piece to limit the welding and make it stronger.

Still working on the suspension at the front plus a few other ideas.

a landy thats reliable?

They may undress themselves regularly and encourage you to spend money on them, but they are reliable, well mine have always been in honesty.

At the moment she is really mucky and feeling sorry for herself as with the weather I haven't had time to clean it. However I did spend a day and went through all of the inside and it was nice and clean which was a joy for two days before I went off roading again lol.

The salt and snow have made my tree sliders rusty and the bumpers need another paint as I only quickly painted them initially.

The weather to week, but starts first time all the time

This next couple of weeks I will be finishing off the rear bumper by fitting the NATO hitch, painting the bumpers and sliders properly. Also working on a roof console for the CB and Radio whilst trying to figure out what to do about storage in the back.

Here's a little video of me trying to get up the incline. You can clearly see the nearside front wheel loosing the grip. My mate with me who was filming, had LSD diffs and insa copies and made it up with no trouble. Guess that's the next item on the list when money allows.
