discovery rear light cluster aaaarrrrrrrrrggghhh

Evnin, just had the pleasure of taking my rear cluster out to change a bulb that turns out was ok and was actually a fuse d'oh. Anyhoo I would just like to state for the record that if I ever met the guy that designed that fixing arrangement for these lights I would set him on fire and put him out with a golf shoe and claw hammer.
Has anyone came up with an alternative to make taking the lights on and off easier?

I've got a set of bent long nosed pliers something like these and with a bit of practice you can grab the bulb holder from the inside.

Interesting, although I think is still struggle with my meat hooks.

He did such a good job on them that he probably got promoted to designing the headlamp units and fog lights on the facelift Disco 2.

........ and then went on to design the headlights on my Renault Megan (yeah, I know).

They've put the headlight bulbs in Granny's Room!!!!!

7 seaters are the worst though. I took the dickie seat out but the bracket still sticks out at the top, just where you need to undo the top nut.

I'm sure there is such a thing as a nut ( plastic) that you can push on but thread off, that would be a bit better than the wing nut things. But still think there must be a better easier solution than two metal bars and plastic wing nuts , anyone?

Need a small child to help do it.

When I took mine out I'd got all the trim stripped out anyway. I imagine it's a bit of a sod reaching through that tiny access panel!

I've yet to have this pleasure, but by the sounds of it its a real PITA - which would explain why so many D1s run around with rear lamps out! :lol:

I've only had to replace a stop lamp bulb and agree what a 'pain' getting access with the seat being in front of the access hatch, twisting the bulb holder out first... and then trying to line up the replacement square at the same twisting to lock it in place, it took me around half hour, other cars I have 3-5mins max.

mine has no interior trim other than seats and dash board so its a bit easier in mine although still a pain in the arse.

I'm glad I'm not the only one to have trouble changing the brake light bulb.

I took mine for an MOT and the drivers brake light was out, not a simple thing to check on your own.

Even though I probably have one at home I asked the guy to stick one on the bill for me as that was the only issue. He watched me struggle for 10 minutes and was quite happy to let me drive off with my MOT and carry on at home. Took another 20 minutes of swearing at it to get it back in when I got home.

Sods law, the bulb I replaced was in offside lamp and me being right handed makes it difficult, I had to use my left hand to fit the bulb.
Might be slightly easer if next time it was the nearside lamp.

Don't you believe it, just as bad imo.

I just sealed my old ones back in because the clips fell down and couldn't find them bad idea but it's still a crap design on my new td5
